A fire that started in a pile of pallets and then spread to a home is under investigation.
The Kelowna Fire Department was called to the house near Gordon Drive and Lawrence Avenue at around 4:00am Thursday morning.
“We received a 911 call about some pallets being on fire in a parking lot in between two buildings,” said Platoon Captain Steve Wallick “The fire spread from the pallets up into the underside of the eaves and got into the attic space.”
Five residents who go out safely are now displaced because of damage to the attic.
Wallick says the fire is considered suspicious and the Kelowna RCMP are investigating.
"A male on a bicycle was seen in the area prior to the report of the fire and the police are interested in speaking with him," says Cpl. Tania Carroll in a news release "At this time, the Kelowna RCMP are not certain if there is a connection between the male on a bike and the fire, however the fire is suspicious and believed to be human caused."
