An 82-year-old woman is in the hospital being treated for serious injuries after being hit by a car Friday afternoon.
Shortly before 12:30, an RCMP officer investigating a property damage collision on Underhill Street was approached by a concerned citizen, who told him about a nearby incident on Baron Road.
The officer then found the woman conscious and breathing on the road, and learned from witnesses that the woman was crossing the street in heavy traffic, when she was hit by a red Buick Enclave. She then landed on the hood of the car before falling to the ground.
She was taken hospital in stable condition, and her injuries were believed to be non-life threatening.
"RCMP would like to acknowledge the number of bystanders who jumped in to provide first aid to the injured woman, and keep her calm and as comfortable as possible while emergency medical crews responded to the scene," says RCMP Corporal Jesse O'Donaghey.
The driver of the car, a 46-year-old man from Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, remained at the scene to cooperate with police. He's been charged for failing to yield to a pedestrian.
Any witnesses who have not yet come forward to speak to police are asked to do so by calling 250-762-3300.
