The Salvation Army wants volunteers.
“We live in a community where disasters, unfortunately, happen all around us each and every year. We need to raise up an army of people to come alongside and support what we do to provide support to not only evacuees but also emergency personnel,” said Salvation Army Pastor Darryl Burry.
Just last year when massive flooding was followed up by the worst wildfire season in BC history, the Salvation Army’s emergency support staff was heavily leaned on. “We did thousands of hours last year volunteering over the course of the summer. I believe there was upwards of 500-600 volunteers who partnered with us and there was still a need for more,” explains Burry.
Tasks included greeting evacuees, providing refreshments and supplies, and showing moral/emotional support.
There’s a volunteer information night planned for Thursday, April 5th at the Kelowna Community Church (1480 Sutherland Avenue) at 6PM.
Please register for the event so organizers will have an idea of how many people need to be accommodated.
