West Kelowna firefighters have put out a fire that started in the engine of a dump truck.
It happened around 2pm near Campbell Road, on the ramp to enter Highway 97 westbound.
Fire Captain Pat Harmata said the driver was crossing Bennett Bridge when he smelled fuel.
“He pulled over the truck onto the on-ramp here hoping to keep it off the highway,” he said “As soon as he parked it he noticed a little smoke coming from underneath the hood. By the time he had a chance to look under the hood, the fire had developed a little bit.”
The driver tried to extinguish the fire himself before calling the fire department.
Harmata says a severed fuel line may have sparked the fire. The truck was completely damaged.
