In an AM 1150 News exclusive, we've learned that the union has voted down a tentative contract proposal with BC Transit.
Kelowna union President Scott Lovell says it's always a process, "We explained the details, the different clauses, the changes and then they voted it down. I'ts not unusual after a first offer for that to occur. Our membership is our highest authority, that's why we do these things."
The vote was close. 52 percent opposed.
Lovell is not discouraged, in fact he's rather positive, "That means we're close. We don't always get it bang on. But the feedback from membership gave us information on things we can go back to the company with and see what the opportunities are to make a better deal."
The next step is a return to the bargaining table, but that may take several weeks. Unfortunately, the company is bargaining with 8 other areas around the province. Lovell says it'll likely be June before the next session can be arranged.
