Kelowna Mayor Colin Basran understands everyone is struggling financially dealing with COVID-19.
With taxes due July 1st, Basran says they can't just let homeowners off the hook by delaying payment without some type of safety net in place.
"It's not like we can just say 'Ok we'll catch you later and we'll run a deficit this year'," Basran said. "We don't have that option. So, we're trying to work something out with the provincial government to, obviously, help our taxpayers, business and residents and otherwise, but it’s complex.”
Appearing on AM 1150's Early Edition, Basran says municipalities want more information on if the provinces tax deferral program can be expanded.
