West Kelowna council was given an update at Tuesday's meeting over last week's sit-down between Mayor Doug Findlater, CAO Jim Zaffino, and BC FInance Minister Carole James.
Findlater says that he felt that meeting went well, despite the province's doubling down this week on plans to include West Kelowna in its speculation tax.
He says he's still waiting for the same opportunity with John Horgan.
"We tried for meetings with all three - the finance minister, the premier, and Andrew Weaver of the Green Party. We never heard back from Premier Horgan at all, I must say I'm concerned about that. The day we did get an appointment with Minister James and her assistants, he was in Vancouver, so that's understandable why he perhaps didn't drop in," he said.
Findlater also described an incident on Twitter involving Green Party Leader Andrew Weaver.
Over multiple tweets, Weaver directed Findlater to take his concerns to Liberal MLA Ben Stewart, who won the seat in last month's by-election.
"I said 'Andrew, you were here a month ago telling us that we should support you because you've got a direct line to the decision-making in the provincial government,' and that's when he retorted (that) it's not our problem, go see Ben Stewart," he said.
"I just wanted to report that, because I found it kind of inappropriate in some ways, to handle it in that way."
As staff continue to try and secure more meetings, Findlater says he thinks the city needs to think about offering more than just words.
"I really do believe we've still got a valid case. But I think we may need to do more in order to persuade them, if we're going to back at them," he said.
"I would like to find a way we can provide a certain percentage of units, in whatever developments there are, for affordable housing. This is a way of saying growth is good, don't retard the growth. Because you're retarding affordable housing."
