The Finlay Creek Wildfire, burning between Peachland and Summerland, is now 65% contained and 2,228 hectares in size.
The BC Wildfire Service says 122 firefighters, 1 helicopter and 9 pieces of heavy equipment will continue working through the day bolstering guards. They'll also patrol the burn-off area for any hotspots with support from heavy equipment.
Structural protection personnel have assessed the southern flank of the fire and set up equipment on properties where necessary. Crews and specialists continue to assess other areas of the fire.
Although weather is cooler, gusts of wind are forecasted out of the southwest, which could increase fire behaviour in some areas of the fire. Smoke will continue to be visible in surrounding areas for some time.
An area restriction for all Crown land in the vicinity of the Finlay Creek wildfire also remains in effect. The area restriction includes Darke Lake Provincial Park, Garnet Lake and Munro Lake Forest Service Road.
Effective September 10th, the Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen lifted the Evacuation Order for the Meadow Valley area. The area remains in Evacuation Alert. Effective on September 8, 2017 some evacuation alerts and orders have been downgraded in RDOS and CORD.
For information on evacuation alerts and orders please contact the Regional District of the Okanagan Similkameen and the Central Okanagan Regional District.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
