The Kelowna Fire Department responded to a report of a fire in a Rutland home on Keithly Road Thursday afternoon.
3 engines and 16 firefighters were dispatched, and arrived on the scene to find flames and smoke coming from the building.
“We sent in a crew, there was one bystander there that stated that there could be a boy in the house,” says Platoon Captain Tim Light. “So we went and we did a primary search, extinguished the fire that we found, then came out, and a second crew went in to do a second search, and both searches came up with nothing found.”
Crews were able to quickly extinguish the blaze, which left the lower level of the house with significant fire and smoke damage.
A father and two kids, as well as one pet, were displaced by the fire, and are receiving support from family in the city.
The exact cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
