Fire crews in the Okanagan are comfortable enough in their own efforts that they may pull some resources, such as hose lines and water systems, out of specific wildfire zones this week.
All three wildfires on the Westside are currently under control, and are not expected to cause further problems.
This includes the Mount Eneas wildfire (1793 hectares), the Mount Conkle wildfire (91 hectares), and the Peachland Creek wildfire (23 hectares).
With this in mind, Incident Commander Glen Burgess says the three fires in Okanagan Mountain Provincial Park, particularly the Goode’s Creek fire, are now a focal point for firefighting efforts.
“We’re taking some limited suppression action, only in respect to protecting homes, structures, and other pieces of infrastructure in the park,” says Burgess.
The Goode’s Creek fire has been gradually growing in size (currently at 1370 hectares) but that growth is moving south, away from Kelowna.
As of Monday, the Glenfir Road wildfire (100 hectares) is being classified as ‘held,’ while the Frederick Creek wildfire (58 hectares) is still creating a large amount of smoke in the area.
