The West Kelowna Fire Department has another tool to fight forest fires.
A Fire Danger Monitoring Station, which is one of 260 across BC, has been set up on the hills above Rose Valley.
Fire Chief Jason Brolund says the station provides hourly reports on temperature, humidity, precipitation and wind speed.
"We evaluate the results from the station every day and let's us know when the fire danger is high, which means fires that we may encounter will spread faster, burn hotter and will pose more difficulty for us to extinguish".
The City of West Kelowna contributed $28 thousand dollars for the purchase and installation of the station, with an annual maintenance fee of $1250.00.
