Shortly after 5:00 pm on Sunday the Kelowna Regional Fire Dispatch Centre received multiple 911 calls reporting a wildfire below Mt. Baldy Drive.
The first arriving officer reported a 30 ft X 30 ft, rank 2 wildfire on a steep slope.
Access was an issue so crews initially cut a fire guard around the fire to contain it until hose lines were in place and a water source was secured. The fire was then quickly knocked down and extinguished.
The fire appears to have started in a camp for people experiencing homelessness.
There were no injuries to public or firefighters.
The Kelowna Fire Department responded with 4 Engines, 2 bush trucks an ATV and a Command Unit including 20 fire personnel. RCMP, BCAS and City of Kelowna Bylaw attended as well.
The Kelowna Fire Department would like to remind the public that campfires are not permitted within the city limits. If you see a fire please call 911.
