The Kelowna Fire Department responded in full force to a report of a fire on Argyll Road in the Rutland Area Thursday morning.
20 personnel, 4 engines, and command, safety, and rescue units all arrived on the scene shortly before 9 AM to battle the blaze, which was coming from a single family house.
Fire crews managed to extinguish the flames fairly quickly, although the damage had already been done. The property itself had sustained major fire damage, and while a neighboring property only sustained minor damage, a vehicle on that same neighboring property was destroyed by the fire.
One elderly female resident managed to escape the property without injury before fire crews arrived, and is currently being attended to by Emergency Social Services.
While the Kelowna Fire Department continues its investigation into what caused the fire, they would like to take this time to remind the public to have working smoke detectors in their homes at all times.
