At approximately 1:09 pm, Wednesday, May 9th Kelowna Fire Dispatch received a 911 call reporting smoke coming from a townhouse unit in the 3000 block of Walnut Rd. The smoke was coming from the second story of 1 unit in a 5 row townhouse complex.
3 fire engines, 1 rescue vehicle, 1 safety vehicle and 1 command vehicle responded, along with RCMP,BC Ambulance, Fortis and ESS.
Fire crews gained entry into townhouse and knocked down fire on the first floor. Primary search was conducted and found no one was inside. The fire was contained to the single unit, and an adjacent unit took on some light smoke damage.
1 adult resident could not stay in the home due to the heavy damage and is being provided Emergency Support Services.
‘Smokers materials’ was deemed the cause.
