An airplane on fire.
Escaping a house fully engulfed in flames.
A car crash with power lines strewn everywhere.
Those are just some of the scenario's volunteer firefighters will face when they attend spring training this weekend at the Lake Country Fire Department.
"Volunteers are the backbone of fire fighting in BC. Today the province sets the training standard and 90 percent of the firefighters in BC are trained to the same standard as a career firefighter before they are ever allowed to fight fires."
Fire Chief Steve Windsor says over 300 volunteer firefighters from across BC will attend the one day seminar.
"A large group of firefighters will experience what it is like to fight a fire in an airplane. They have different airplanes to practice on, the larger 747's to the smaller ten passenger planes", Windsor added.
