Several homes in Kirschner Mountain Estates have been flooded by melt water in the past few days - and developer Al Kirschner says they're working to try and prevent more flooding.
He tells AM 1150 News the subdivision, east of Kelowna off Highway 33, has seen high snow levels this past winter.
"The unfortunate part is we've got 150% more snow than we did in previous years, and it's also late for the melt which didn't start until two weeks ago, and now it's warmed up quite a bit, and it's coming off quite fast," he says.
Kirschner says he's aware of complaints from residents that their construction work may have caused the flooding.
"I don't think whether we had developed it or not, because the ground did slope towards these properties prior to us removing trees and grading it. I don't think it would have made much of a difference because if we got a fast melt, it's going to come down and needs someplace to go," he says.
Kirschner says they've ditched most of the water away now - and are pumping out the dug outs and trucking the water away.
He says when roads are eventually constructed, storm drains will be installed, which should handle 90% of future melt water.
