Beginning this week, the City of West Kelowna will be conducting recovery work in Powers Creek, from the west side of Rotary Trails Park to the mouth of the creek at Okanagan Lake.
Portions of Rotary Trails Park, Powers Point Park and Willow Point Park and one lane Gellatly Boat Launch will be closed as the City works to return the creek’s volume capacity to pre-flood conditions after being damaged during the 2017 freshet.
The Gellatly Road Bridge over Powers Creek will not be closed during repairs, however, motorists and pedestrians may experience some delays as flaggers direct construction vehicles through the park area.
The cost of the project is $768,000.
Working within federal and provincial guidelines for creek works, the City anticipates the project will be completed by August 26.
The project will include ongoing environmental monitoring.
