It has been just over a month since the BC River Forecast Centre first issued a high stream advisory for Mission Creek, which runs through downtown Kelowna.
Since the warning May 4th, record water levels from snowpacks at higher elevations have flooded creeks and streams flowing into Okanagan Lake.
It's resulted in flooded basements, submerged yards, evacuations and endless sandbagging by residents to protect property.
Emergency Operation Centre's Ron Mattiussi admits it has been a long four weeks.
"This is very hard for everyone. Many staff have been in the Emergency Operations Centre for over a month. You can't forget the public works people. You can't forget about them. They are the guys out there everyday preparing the sandbags. I think it's just hard because it never changes and it's not going to change quickly."
Mattiussi says the cost of dealing with the flooding now stands at an estimated six-million dollars, more than double what it was just two weeks ago.
"I am not surprised at that total. And remember it is for the entire Central Okanagan. There is almost two million sandbags out here and eight kilometers of aqua dams", Mattiussi added.
