A family member of murder victim Waylon Jackson was so upset during the recollection of his autopsy that she had to step out of the courtroom in Kelowna Friday morning, and could be heard sobbing outside.
Two forensic experts gave their testimony in court on Friday, detailing the various injuries to Jackson from the night of his death two years ago.
These injuries included:
Jackson was pronounced dead at the hospital shortly after sustaining his injuries.
The exact cause of death was determined to be exsanguination, or loss of blood, due to the stab wounds.
A forensic toxicologist testified that traces of alcohol, THC, morphine, and codeine were found in Jackson's bloodstream during the autopsy. It was uncertain whether the morphine and codeine were administered into Jackson's body before his injuries or during his time in hospital moments before his death.
During the autopsy, it was impossible to determine what Jackson's exact blood alcohol level was at his time of death. It was only determined that it had dropped significantly in that time.
28-year-old Chad Alphonse is charged with second degree murder in the March 11, 2016 stabbing death of Jackson at a party in a Rutland home.
The second week of the three week trial has wrapped up, and the trial is expected to conclude next week.
The identities of all 27 witnesses testifying in the trial are protected under a publication ban.
