For the third year in a row the Regional District of Central Okanagan(RDCO) has teamed up with Tire Stewardship BC for a free old tire collection event. Tire Stewardship BC is a not-for-profit society that manages BC’s tire recycling program.
Saturday, September 15th 10:00 am – 3:00 pm Okanagan College
Parking Lot #17 (off West Campus Road), 1000 KLO Road, Kelowna
“They charge for tires, based on size at the Glenmore landfill and we accept tires that are not on rims at the West Kelowna facility for free, but if it’s on a rim we charge,” explained Bruce Smith, RDCO Communications Officer. “At (the Saturday event) it’s free whether you have a rim or not on it.”
Last year, residents dropped off more than a thousand old, unwanted tires which helped to curb mosquito breeding habitat. Smith said, “People don’t realize that it only takes a few centimetres or millimetres of water for mosquitos to lay their eggs in. That’s all it takes for them to hatch and create a breeding ground for potentially pesky mosquitos.”
