Another busy weekend in Kelowna means that open accomodation for flood evacuees is dwindling.
The Salvation Army's Beryl Itani says the emergency response centre has registered a couple hundred people, who still aren't able to go home.
"They have come back several times now to get extensions, because they still are not allowed back in their apartment buildings. And so, it's probably three times that many (requests for accomodation), but it's the same people who keep coming back all the time, so, close to 200 people we've taken care of," she said.
She says hotels are filling right back up at the end of this week.
"There is a festival, there is several sporting events happening, and we have absolutely no accomodation again this weekend. We can fix people up for tonight and tomorrow night, and then Friday-Saturday it's all booked up. And then Sunday, of course everybody will go home and we'll have all kinds of room starting Sunday," she said.
She says if anyone has any accomodation they can offer, the best thing to do is come down to the evac centre in person, and speak directly to people who need it.
She says people with extra room who are willing to take in evacuees can do so, but because of extensive background requirements, it's easiest not to do it officially through the Salvation Army.
Itani says the best course of action is to come down to the evac centre and talk to displaced people in person.
