City Council approved an additional $250,000 in the 2019 Budget, to the Chapman Parkade for repairs and maintenance.
“There’s heaters on the ramp that goes to the upper level of the parkade. The purpose of those heaters is to ensure the snow melts and the ice doesn’t build up in the winter when there's inclement weather," said the City's Real Estate Manager, Johannes Sauffer.
The money comes alongside another budget item, almost $650,000 was already approved for deck resurfacing and painting.
According to Sauffer, both projects will require closure of the parkade.
They requested the money for the heaters early to avoid closing the parkade twice.
No specific start date or time frame has been confirmed, however, the City will notify users in advance to make other parking arrangements.
