Gasoline prices in Kelowna have dropped a cent-a-litre on average to $118.9, but according to www.gasbuddy.com we're probably looking at higher overall prices this year.
Gasbuddy Analyst Dan McTeague predicts gasoline will be anywhere from 12 to 20 cents-a-litre more expensive in 2017.
He says oil prices dropped dramatically after 2015, but he believes those days are over.
"Generally speaking, global demand for oil continues to rise, gasoline demand in the United States continues to break record after record - three years running now, the U-S economy is very strong - and if the Canadian loonie can't find much traction, it does mean that prices that we've seen trending down into the 90's could be a thing of the past going forward," he says.
McTeague says the short-term, good news for Kelowna is another drop at the pump, maybe 3 or 4 cents-a-litre by the beginning of next week - he says U-S refinery issues, that had been driving up prices before Christmas, are over.
He says at this time last year, gas was at $105 a-litre, but he says January is when we typically see lower pump prices in the Okanagan.
