Gas prices in the city are slowly creeping up to 121.9 cents a litre.
Dan McTeague with Gas Budd.com says the 7 cent jump is due to an increase in wholesale gas prices.
“Pretty much all of western Canada, with the exception of the Lower Mainland follows the Chicago spot market for gasoline,” he says “A lot of maintenance at several refineries in the U.S. mid-west is causing an upward movement in prices.”
He predicts all stations will be selling for 121.9 cents a litre by Monday and won't go back down until November.
“Refineries, once they come out of these scheduled maintenances, will probably add more inventory and that will probably bring prices down,” he said “But I don’t see that happening until at least the first or second week of November.”
Until then, McTeague says prices in the Okanagan will remain above the 117.9 cents a litre range.
