A sizeable residential development has got the go ahead from West Kelowna Council.
The project will see the construction of 109 townhouses and 60 apartments along Gellatly Road South.
On Tuesday, councillors voted to grant a development permit to Kerr Properties after considering the aesthetics of the project.
"It seems the consensus is that this is a positive development, and I agree with that." said Mayor Gord Milsom.
Multiple councillors expressed their excitement for the project, hoping it will bring more affordable housing to the west side.
"This is the right type of development that we need to see to get a diversified range of housing in West Kelowna" said Councillor Stephen Johnston.
Development will see what is currently a gravel lot converted into medium-density residential neighbourhood.
"I like the idea of attainable housing." said Councillor Doug Findlater. "...certainly more desirable than a gravel pit."
The developer will now have a year to provide a $478,000 landscaping security to the city in order to secure the permit.
