A police incident that prompted the brief closure of a portion of Gellatly Road and Witt Road, ended peacefully this afternoon in West Kelowna.
Shortly after 11:30 am, West Kelowna RCMP were called to a residence located in the 3000 block of Wetton Road, for reports of a disturbance involving a distraught and barricaded male.
In order to ensure public safety, police closed a portion of the roadway and called for the assistance of highly tactical trained officers and crisis negotiators.
With the support of the RCMP South East District Emergency Response Team (SED ERT), Police Dog Services, and specially trained crisis negotiators, RCMP were able to communicate with the distraught male.
“The 42-year-old West Kelowna man has since exited the home, where he was taken into police custody without any further incident.” says RCMP Cst. Lesley Smith.
“The West Kelowna and Southeast District RCMP wish to extend their thanks to all those who were impacted, for their patience, understanding and full cooperation during the temporary road closures.”
