This is Gender Equality Week in Canada.
Women are generally still paid less then men and are there are fewer women in leadership roles. Are we doing enough to close the gap? C-E-O of Kelowna's Troika Developments, Renee Merrifield-Wasylyk thinks so.
"Is there still work to be done? Absolutely," says Merrifield-Wasylyk. "And some of that is within the business community and some of that is within our societal norm. The expectation that women will care for their kids to a more significant extent than their spouses. What I've seen and what I would celebrate is more men championing great women."
For women who aspire to leadership she says believe in yourself and go for it.
"Lead the path. Pioneer it and break the ground and make it easier to come from behind and move forward," says Merrifield-Wasylyk. "I was given big shoulders for a reason. I hope to be one of the giants that many women can stand on and move much farther then even what I've done. I think that's really the job of the female entrepreneur and also every business owner."
Gender Equality Week ends September 29th.
