Twenty-five thousand dozen eggs per week - that's how many eggs will be donated to BC food banks in the coming weeks.
Katie Lowe, Executive Director of The BC Egg Marketing Board says a lot of eggs usually go to restaurants which are closed because of COVID-19.
Those eggs will now go to people facing food insecurity.
"We have 144 family farms that produce eggs in BC. So, each of these producers are donating some of their eggs," Lowe said. "And our grading stations - Golden Valley, Island Eggs, and Farmer Ben's - are also donating some of their time and the supplies in order to get these eggs to food banks."
It's hoped the donation can continue until restaurants are back in operation.
Food Banks BC has five hubs around the province. Eggs will be delivered to the hubs who will then get the eggs to clients.
