The theft of bronze grave markers at Westbank Cemetary has a West Kelowna woman thinking of others, despite her own pain.
The markers from three of Cherie Carey's grandparents' graves were stolen, along with at least 50 others last Saturday.
"It's hard to believe," Carey says. "You don't think people are actually going to rob graves."
Through their grief Cherie and her sister have started a GoFundMe page called Hope For Headstones.
"We thought, we can't be the only ones that are going to be hit hard with this. We'd like to get all the headstones replaced."
The cost to replace the markers is around $57,000.
Two of Carey's grandparents were veterans. She's hoping the Veteran's Association might help with the cost of replacing their grave markers.
"I just hope the community can draw together and support each other and honour the people who have been violated by greed," adds Carey. "That's what it boils down to, greed."
