The Kelowna Gospel Mission is coming to the aid of the homeless that are dealing with the smoky conditions.
The shelter will be open 24 hours a day as the smoke continues to hang in the valley.
Volunteer Coordinator Sonja Menyes says it will allow people to stay inside and enjoy the air conditioning.
"We also serve meals. We are doing about 600 meals a day right now and we've got people, many on disability, who are walking, so just for them to come inside and get away from the heat and get away from the smoke".
Menyes says over the last few days, clients of the shelter have been complaining about difficulty breathing, headaches and eye irritation.
"Outside, it is not only hot but smokey. One guy I talked too said he went through two inhalers yesterday, so we decided to keep the shelter open 24/7", Menyes added.
