House of Rose Winery is hosting one of their annual Grape Stomping Parties today in support of the Kelowna food Bank.
Owner Aura Rose says it’s a free, family-friendly event that explores an old tradition.
“We've had a huge stomping barrel made for us specially. We have 14 people; they want to set a record to see how many people can actually fit in the barrel. So you get into the barrel, we have grapes in there and you stomp.”
Grape Stomping is a tradition used to make wine in Italy and Portugal.
She started the event because she wanted to create something that was family oriented and free during wine festivals.
“A lot of wine festival events are quite pricey and we want to do some that was family and free. All we ask is that you bring a donation for the food bank,” said Rose.
Stomps are schedule on the hour from 1p.m to 4p.m.
“Especially for kids, they want to go back in again and and again and again because they love it. So they get to stomp grapes and then can hang out and watch other people. We have a place for people to wash their feet afterwards, obviously, and they can do a tasting of wine, maybe a glass of wine and we'll have a food truck up here too.”
If you can't make the event today, they're hosting another one Saturday October 12th.
