BC Green Party leader Andrew Weaver is in Kelowna today.
This morning on AM 1150's Early Edition, Weaver touched on several broader election issues including his party's ban on corporate donations, and also on issues that have a direct effect on the Okanagan.
He promised that the Green's would eliminate foreign speculation on agricultural land saying owning famland is getting out of the reach of BC farmers.
"We would make it such that you cannot own farmland, over 5 acres, unless you're a Canadian citizen or a Canadian resident paying taxes here in the Canada - and the reason that's important is that it's our future, it's our food security," says Weaver.
Weaver says western provinces like Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba - also Quebec and PEI - have policies in place to protect farmland from foreign investors.
Weaver was to tour some Kelowna farms today with representatives of the BC Fruit Growers Association.
