Shopping centre proposal
Council considered a rezoning request and Official Community Plan amendment to redevelop several lots at 175 Old Vernon Road, and 2053, 2065, and 2115 Rutland Court. Several developments are proposed for the site, including a carwash, shopping centre, and drive-thru food primary establishment. Council gave first reading to the proposed rezoning and OCP amendment and forwarded the project to the July 14, 2020 public hearing.
Medical building on Pandosy
A rezoning request allowing for a new two-storey medical services building at the corner of Christleton Avenue and Pandosy Street was reviewed by Council. Council gave first reading to the proposed rezoning and waived the public hearing. Council will take written correspondence about the proposal until Monday, June 29, 2020.
Water rates 2021
Council received an update on Water Utility rates for 2021. By passing the 2021 rates now, customers can be informed about water costs and have time to adjust their consumption should they feel the need to do so. Read the full report here.
Surtees Heritage site recognized
Council accepted an award from the Central Okanagan Heritage Society recognizing the City of Kelowna and Worman Commercial for the revitalization and preservation of the Surtees Heritage site, at 4629 Lakeshore Road. The project was awarded with a 2020 Heritage Award for showcasing effective and innovative initiatives and solutions that contribute to the preservation and revitalization of local heritage sites.
Regional Transportation Plan
The Sustainable Transportation Partnership of the Central Okanagan (STPCO) is a formal partnership of the City of Kelowna, City of West Kelowna, Districts of Lake Country and Peachland, Westbank First Nation and the Regional District of Central Okanagan. Council heard an update on STPCO activities and an overview of the Draft Regional Transportation Plan and its sub-components: the Draft Regional Bicycling and Trails Master Plan and Draft Regional Disruptive Mobility Strategy. E-scooters
Council received an update on e-scooter use downtown and the bikeshare permit program. Council directed staff to provide options to e-scooters from operating on the Waterfront Walkway and Bernard Avenue and report back to Council.
