Time is running out for the Inn from the Cold homeless shelter to find a new building to operate out of.
Last month, the shelter was handed an eviction notice after its current building on Sutherland Avenue was purchased by a developer, who will be demolishing it in order to build new senior housing.
Shelter Executive Director Jan Shulz appeared on the Early Edition, saying she hasn't received any offers for a new location yet.
“I’ve been basically driving around the city and looking at any ‘for lease’ signs, or any ‘for sale’ signs, and so far we’ve had no luck, but I’m not giving up hope,” say Shulz.
The deadline for the shelter to leave its current location is the end of September, and Shulz says they're open to any accommodation, including an unused warehouse or farm space.
“If we don’t (find a new location), then basically, there’s going to be 45 very vulnerable people who are going to be out on the street, just as winter starts coming,” says Shulz.
At its current location, a typical season for the shelter goes from November to March every year.
