Parked cars are deathtraps for dogs.
In the middle of a heat wave in the Okanagan, the BC-SPCA is reminding pet owners to be vigilant.
Kelowna Branch Manager Sean Hogan says far too many dogs are being left in vehicles in the scorching heat.
"We are still fielding two to three calls a day and that is just our office. I don't know how many are going into the RCMP after hours yet, so that's alarming to me".
Last summer, the BC-SPCA received more than 1,200 calls for animals in distress inside hot cars.
"People are still making the choice to leave their animal in a vehicle when they go shopping. It is always five minutes. People always say, 'I will just be five minutes'. It is never five minutes to go in and out of the store", Hogan added.
