Kelowna RCMP is treating a house fire in downtown Kelowna as suspicious.
It broke out at just before 7:10am this morning at a house on Stockwell Avenue, following what witnesses say sounded like an explosion.
Fire crews couldn't go inside the fully engulfed house as it was too dangerous, so they extinguished it from the outside. Other than the outside frame and exterior, the house is completely destroyed.
Both the Kelowna Fire Department and Kelowna RCMP are investigating.
“The Kelowna RCMP have secured the scene and continue to work collaboratively with the Kelowna Fire Department as investigators work to probe the blaze which is being treated as suspicious in nature at this time,” says Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey in a news release.
The house’s instability is making it difficult for investigators, as they have been unable to enter the house due to safety concerns.
The Kelowna Fire Department and Kelowna RCMP have not commented on the whereabouts of the house’s residents.
