For the second consecutive season, UBC Okanagan Heat women's basketball forward Jaeli Ibbetson has been recognized as a Canada West Second Team All-Star after the conference announced it's all-stars and all-rookies on Tuesday morning.
Ibbetson, a native of Kelowna, B.C., earned the recognition after a remarkable season in her final year with the Heat. She posted career-best marks of 17.7 points per game, 12.7 rebounds per game and 4.0 assists per game, as she led the Canada West conference in rebounding while finishing tied for second in scoring and tied for fourth in assists. She was also named the Canada West and U SPORTS women's basketball player of the week on two separate occasions, and became just the eighth player to record a triple-double in a Canada West game when she accomplished the feat in the Heat's regular season finale on February 10 against the Manitoba Bisons.
The season was a special one as well when looking at individual program marks for Ibbetson. The graduate of Kelowna Secondary set new single season marks for most points in a season, with 353, and most rebounds in a season with 253. Her 79 assists rank as the second-most in a single season in team history while her 16 blocks are the fifth most in a single season by a Heat player.
With the recognition, Ibbetson becomes just the eighth student-athlete at UBCO since the Heat joined the Canada West conference to be recognized as a conference all-star on multiple occasions, joining Stefanie Young (women's soccer), Sydney Grills (women's volleyball), Joanna Brown (women's cross country), Camille Galloway (women's cross country), Mitch McCaw (men's soccer), Katy Klomps (women's volleyball) and Katie Wuttunee (women's volleyball).
