ICBC has announced a new windshield repair program this week.
People who buy optional comprehensive coverage can get windshield chips repaired for free, as long as it's safe and the whole windshield doesn't need replacing.
Dave Smith at Kelowna's "Leading Edge Glass & Detail" says it's good news.
"I think it's great. If you have private insurance, or third-party insurance, those insurance companies cover rock chips so why wouldn't ICBC," says Smith. "I think it's going to bring more customers in the door."
The NDP's ICBC critic Adrian Dix says the program really isn't all that new - it was ICBC policy up until 2001 when the Liberals cancelled it.
"They forced a lot more windshield replacements that cost ICBC money and people more money - and they hurt Interior drivers, and that's the reality. That's the sad story of Liberal rule over the last 15 years. They only seem to care two months before an election," says Dix.
ICBC says since 2010, windshield replacement claims have climbed 17% and close to 30% in cost.
