While the number of wasps are expected to drop this summer on the Lower Mainland, the same won't be the case in the Okanagan.
Steve Paul with Kelowna based Bug Master Pest Control says once the weather becomes consistently hot --- look out.
"The Okanagan is a special place because it is so arid. We don't have the moisture issues and the coolness that the coast has and we don't have the freezing cold that the Alberta side has. We are kind of in that little pocket where it is really conducive to all insect activity. We get lots of stuff in the valley that other places in BC don't get".
The wet spring is to blame for the expected increase in wasps.
The pests are most prevalent in August, so enjoy your picnic and camping outings until then.
