We've had very few days of beach weather in the Okanagan so far this summer, but that hasn't stopped the Canadian Red Cross from issuing a warning around water.
The latest data shows 1 in 3 accidental drowning deaths occured in the Interior Health Region.
"It is not just enough to have a life jacket on board a boat. They need to be worn by everybody. At the beach, supervising your children should be the number one thing you should do. No one should swim alone and active supervision is an absolute key in keeping people safe."
The Red Cross' Daniel Sander says investing your children in swimming lessons is a great idea, especially in our area where we enjoy a longer water recreation season.
