In 2017, over 90 cyclists were struck by a vehicle in Kelowna.
With gas prices soaring, that number is expected to climb.
The City of Kelowna's Active Transportation Coordinator Matt Worona says no one is to blame for the high number.
"People do make mistakes. We all have moments of inattention. As we build out more cycling facilities, or build out more improvements to the road network, we will try to get away from those lapses in attention."
Worona says the safest time to be riding is when everyone else is, as motorists are acutely aware that cyclists are trying to share the roadway.
"In the summertime we have more people on bikes and more collisions, but based on how many people are riding, what is the collision rate? What we found is the safest time to be riding is when everyone else is, so their is safety in numbers", Worona added.
