A judge has approved a judicial recount in the Peachland mayoral election.
This comes after Incumbent Cindy Fortin and challenger Harry Gough tied at 804 votes each this past weekend.
Gough initially beat Fortin by a single vote (804-803), but elections officials did an unofficial recount earlier this week, and found that one ballot was not submitted properly.
Going into Friday's recount application hearing, Gough wanted a second vote in Peachland, but realized a recount is the only option.
"My whole intent is to follow the process, as is laid out by the courts; that's what the judge has decided, so I'm on board to do that," says Gough.
Fortin was not present at the hearing.
The recount will take place on Monday at 10 AM at the Peachland Community Centre - the votes will all be counted by hand.
If the recount results in another tie, then the Mayor of Peachland will be decided by lot.
