Press release from KABU and TasteFull Excursions on July 20, 2020:
Kelowna residents and visitors will have a convenient, clean, reliable and safe new way to get around town starting at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 1.
The B.C. Day long weekend will mark the launch of KABU’s ride-hailing services in Kelowna. To access KABU’s made-in-Canada transportation services, riders need to download the KABU App (from the App Store or Google Play) and register for an account. After that, just tell us where, and KABU will take you there.
Safety is KABU’s top priority, with special precautions taken to ensure everyone inside a KABU vehicle remains healthy during the Covid19 pandemic.
Riders and KABU’s drivers will be required to wear a mask inside KABU’s vehicles, which will be cleaned before and after every trip.
Many of KABU’s vehicles will be equipped with transparent Lexan plastic KABU Cares Shields to reduce the risk of spread between drivers and passengers. This additional precaution is intended to give peace-of-mind to riders, drivers and the public.
As part of KABU’s safety protocols, all frequently-touched surfaces will be regularly wiped down by the driver, including door handles, window and lock controls, and handholds. And in between trips, the vehicle’s interiors will be aired out.
Payment for KABU’s ride-hailing’s services are completed electronically via the App and the process is entirely contact-free. No cash is accepted.
KABU has partnered with award-winning Okanagan tour and shuttle transportation firm TasteFull Excursions, which has taken similar precautions with its vehicles by installing these plastic shields, designed and produced by Visual Signs & Printing.
“KABU wants to be part of the solution as B.C.’s economy begins to ramp up again,” said KABU president Billy Xiong. “We believe there’s a strong demand for ride-hailing services in Kelowna, and we want to provide employment opportunities for drivers who want to be their own boss and choose their own hours while earning a living wage.”
KABU’s strategic partnership with TasteFull Excursions is intended to help KABU tailor its services to the needs of Kelowna residents, business owners, visitors and stakeholders.
“We are familiar with the service gaps for convenient and reliable transportation in Kelowna experienced by residents and visitors alike, and we see KABU and its team as a big part of the solution,” said TasteFull Excursions CFO Gordon Stamp-Vincent.
KABU will operate on Saturday, Aug. 1 from 11 a.m. until 2 a.m. on Sunday morning.
Starting on Sunday, Aug. 2, KABU will operate from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. from Sunday through Thursday, and from 6 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
