Kelowna Council wants to restore and upgrade City Park with help from the Province and the Federal Government.
The top priority is the Cold Sands sea wall, which suffered water damage due to flooding last year.
"If you imagine any cracks in the concrete, the water will be forced in and washes out sand from behind the wall, creating a sort of hollow cavity" said Parks and Buildings Planning Manager Robert Parlane.
On top of the initial restorations, the city wants to build a new playground and boardwalk. They are also consulting with Westbank First Nations on a public art installation.
The total budget for the project is $9 million. The city plans to contribue $2.43 million to the project and apply for another 6.57 million through federal and provincial grants.
"[Council] have agreed for us to proceed with preparing the grant application" said Parlane. "We do need to get a commitment for the municipal portion of the project ... and then we'll be submitting an application in January"
If all goes well, the city will aim to break ground in the Fall of 2020.
