Kelowna and the surrounding area was the 6th fastest growing city in Canada between 2011 and 2016.
New numbers from Statistics Canada show the census metropolitan area of Kelowna, which includes Peachland, West Kelowna and Lake Country, grew by 8.4 per cent to 194,882 people over the last 5 years.
While that makes it the fastest growing city in the province, the growth has slowed down from the previous census period of 2006 to 2011, when it grew by 10.8 per cent.
Lake Country saw the biggest growth in the area from 2011-2016 at 10.4 per cent to 12,922 people, while the City of Kelowna grew by 8.6 per cent to 126,380 people and the City of West Kelowna by 5.7 per cent to 32,655.
Other B.C. cities topping the list as the fastest growing in the country includes Victoria, which was ranked 8th and Vancouver which came in at 11th. Calgary and Edmonton grew the fastest in Canada at 1st and 2nd, respectively.
The population of B.C. grew by 5.6 per cent to 4,648,055 and the national population grew 5 per cent to just over 35 million.
