Former BC Tree Fruits site
Council issued a development permit for a joint industrial and commercial project at 816 Clement Ave. One is proposed to be a two-storey light industrial building fronting Vaughan Avenue and the other a three-storey light industrial building with upper floor offices on Clement Avenue.
New auto dealership
A proposal for a luxury automotive vehicles sales and service dealership on property adjacent to the Okanagan Rail Trail, at the corner of McCurdy Road and Highway 97, was considered by Council. Council gave first reading to the proposed rezoning and Official Community Plan amendments and will consider the proposal at a future public hearing.
Orchard Park mall
Council issued a development permit to allow for continued renovations to the former Sears Home site at Orchard Park mall. The proposal includes partial demolition of the building, resulting in 126 more parking stalls. This will be done in combination with simplified road access, landscaping and added walkways to improve pedestrian safety and connectivity. Road access from Dilworth Dr will be closed and the property turned into parking.
Cultural Plan
Council approved a new strategic direction for the development of cultural services in Kelowna. The plan highlights five key theme areas for the next six years, including strategic investments, spaces, capacity, vitality and connections. Read the plan 2020-2025 Cultural Plan here.
Parks funding
Council endorsed a new park development plan, that will add a park development DCC (development cost charge) of $7,180 to the construction of each new housing unit. The change is expected to take effect in January 2020. Read the full Council report here.
