The City of Kelowna is looking at expanding the Chapman Parkade downtown.
City Hall is investigating the possibility of adding an extra floor or two to the facility.
"What we're doing now is having a structural and a geotechnical review done... to establish some parameters about what could be done with the facility" said Parking Co-ordinator Dave Duncan.
The expansion could add as many as 220 stalls, giving many commuters the ability to park closer to work.
Once the city settles on a design, they also plan to spend $80,000 to improve security on the lower levels.
“It’s really for the bottom floor of Chapman.” said Duncan. “We’ve experienced some negative activity down there and it’s really just closing-in corners and ensuring it’s only used for its intended use of parking.”
If all goes well, construction on the project could begin as soon as 2020.
