A 34-year-old Kelowna construction worker, who was badly burned in a house fire last month, continues to improve.
Braden Kapchinsky suffered burns to over half of his body after the townhouse he was working in caught on fire on March 22nd.
Family friend Paul Gates says Braden has undergone his fourth skin graft surgery and is no longer in a medically-induced coma.
"He's definitely more aware. He can't talk yet, but he can respond to questions by squeezing hands and blinking his eyes. Hopefully in the next few days they'll start to deflate his tracheotomy bag, because he's starting to breathe on his own and not assisted by machines," he says.
Gates says so far, a GoFundMe campaign has raised over $13,000 so Kapchincky's wife and children can be with him at a Lower Mainland hospital.
WorkSafeBC is still investigating the circumstances surrounding the fire.
