A BC Liquor Distribution Branch application for a retail cannabis store was denied at yesterday's Kelowna city council meeting.
Mayor Colin Basran was in favour of the store, stating the 500 metre minimum distance between shops can be modified with context.
"In this particular instance I was willing to support the applicant and move the alternate recommendation forward. Because in this particular contextual setting, I believe that having a store across the highway is not as big a deal."
The store was propsed for Willow Park Shopping Centre.
Council stated yesterday there are 18 cannabis retail stores in the process of opening in the city.
