A proposal for an 84 home subdivision in Kettle Valley was denied by Kelowna city council last night.
Councillors voted 6 to 2 against the idea with Mayor Colin Basran and Councillor Gail Given the only ones supporting the proposal.
The owner was looking to develop the land after Central Okanagan School District decided not to go ahead with a middle school on the property.
Residents had complained the property was one of the last remaining flat spaces left in the neighbourhood and many signed a petition demanding the land remain a park.
